The first mitzvah of the parsha

532. To execute the law of the one of beautiful form as is written in the Torah

Deuteronomy 21:11

The root of the mitzvah

The sages said that the Torah permitted the captive woman only in view of the evil inclination, for had it not, a man would marry her in sin, overpowered by his desire. So the Torah shut the door in the face of his inclination - it commanded that her head be shaved, her nails grown, and that she weep in his house for a month, all so that she would become unattractive in his eyes.
